For people wishing to visit Bali, it is important to know and understand visa rules and regulations.

All passports must be valid for 6 months from the date of entry; failure of this will result in being denied to enter the Country.

When leaving Indonesia there is a departure tax of Rp.150,000 which must be paid at the airport.

Citizens of the following countries do not require a visa; however will be issued on arrival with a stay permit of 30 days free of charge, with the presentation of their passport which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. This permit cannot be extended.

Overstaying your visa is a costly mistake and results in a fee of approximately US$20 per day. Exemptions may be made for people with legitimate reasons such as illness which must be proven with a medical certificate.

There are several different visa types available for those who are entering Bali for work, business, socially or holiday purposes.

Visa on Arival

Visa on Arrival is a visa obtained at the airport upon entry and available for 10 days or 30 days and both are non-extendable. Visitors entering on this visa are to be entering with holiday purposes only.

Tourist Visa

A tourist visa is valid for 60 days and is non-extendable. To obtain another tourist visa, you must leave the country and return to get another stamp in your passport.

Social Visa

Social visas are for people with intentions of social and cultural activities, valid for 60 days and extendable monthly to a total of 6 months with a monthly fee. To enter the country with a social visa, you need to have an Indonesian sponsor who must provide a letter of sponsorship. This visa can only be applied for outside of Indonesia and generally takes 3-5 working days.

Business Visa (single entry)

People looking to do business activities in Bali require a Business Visa which is valid for 60 days and extendable for up for 6 months with a monthly fee. This visa requires a sponsor from an Indonesian company and does not permit working although allows you to seek employment.

Business Visa (multiple entry)

A multiple entry business visa is intended for people entering Indonesia on work assignments, conferences and consulting etc and is valid for up to 12 months This visa does not permit you to work for pay and to do so can result in deportation.

Residency or work visa (kitas)

To hold a working visa (kitas), you are required to have sponsorship from an Indonesian company or recognized foreign company. This visa is valid for up to 12 months and takes 6 weeks to process. When leaving Indonesia, you must apply for an ‘exit re-entry permit’ and pay fiscal duties at the airport.

Retirement Visa Bali

If you are 55 years old or older, and able to prove you can support yourself, you can apply for this visa. You are not permitted to work on a retirement visa. After 5 yearly extensions, you can apply for an unlimited stay visa (KITAP) and 12 months after holding a KITAP visa, you can then apply for citizenship.
